Delhi Public School, Surat hosting SPIC MACAY – Gujarat State Convention 2019

Surat : Delhi Public School, Surat with the active support from SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) members is all set to host the SPIC MACAY – Gujarat State Convention 2019; a two day event in DPS SURAT campus on 13 April 2019 and 14 April 2019. Around 200 students and teachers from various schools of the state are nominated and would participate in the mega event to be held in the city.

It will be a unique conclave where participants will witness some great Indian classical Art forms in an ashram-like atmosphere over the two days. The intention to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspire the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it would be facilitated by organizing performances and workshops in the areas of Classical Music, Dance and Art, Film screening, Yoga and Meditation, Talks by scholars, and holistic food.

A plethora of simultaneous activities under the guidelines of renowned artists and learned maestros Dhrupad Chintan Upadhyay: Expert in Hindustani Classical Vocal, Kalashree Ayswaria Wariar: Mohiniyattam Dancer, Smt. Gangubai Amaliya: Bhil Pithora Painting Artist and Shri Chandrakant Mahala: Warli Painting Artist would offer more than a peek into India’s rich and diverse culture and Art forms.

On April 13 Dr. Kiran Seth, the founder of SPIC MACAY at IIT Delhi in 1977 would orient intensive Gurus and the next day potential SPIC MACAY volunteers of the city.  Dr. Kiran Seth would give a glimpse of the Aarambh module to the little Dipsites (Class 1 students), aiming to introduce Indian classical music through interactive and fun-filled educational activities with Yoga and Music. The Evening Concerts at 6:00 pm, open to all music and dance lovers of the city will see Padma Bhushan Dr. N Rajam (Hindustani Classical Music-Violin) and Shri. Chintan Upadhyay (Hindustani Classical Vocal- Dhrupad) perform live.

The 2-day Intensive Sessions will conclude on the second day with brief presentations of various Art activities. On April 14, Classical Dance Concert–Mohiniyattam by Kalashree Ayswaria Wariar would be held at 3:15 pm. The concerts on both the days are open to all to provide memorable experience to all city dwellers.
