23 Surat Schools may lose approval over missing fire and safety reports

Surat: The District Education Office in Surat has initiated the process to revoke the recognition of 23 private primary schools across Surat city and the district. These schools have failed to submit those critical documents, specifically the Fire NOC (No Objection Certificate) and Mock Drill reports required for school safety compliance. Without these approvals, schools risk being shut down, and their students will not be issued Class 10th and Class 12th marksheets, as clarified by the education department.

The main issues arose for schools when the District Education Office demanded these safety-related documents, and the schools either failed to submit them or submitted incomplete or expired paperwork. Some institutions submitted outdated documents or ignored follow-up requests, prompting the department to consider the matter serious negligence. To address this, a special committee has been formed to thoroughly investigate the concerned schools’ infrastructure, safety measures, and general facilities.

The department has also received complaints from students and parents stating that after board exams, students of Class 10th and 12th are forced to visit school authorities multiple times for marksheets, only to be told they must first provide NOC and mock drill reports, documents that students obviously cannot produce. The government has now clearly instructed that no marksheets will be issued to students of non-compliant schools.

The situation pressures school management to comply urgently with safety norms to avoid derecognition and ensure students do not suffer due to administrative negligence.
