Ahmedabad: The District Education Officer of Ahmedabad, Rohit Chaudhari, has issued show-cause notices to three private schools: Mukt Jivan School, Nelson School, and United Valley School, for violating the provisions of the Right to Education Act.
These schools were allegedly involved in illegal practices, such as collecting additional fees from students admitted under the 25% Right to Education quota and forcing parents to purchase books and accessories from their designated vendors, which is against Right to Education norms.
The DEO has demanded that the schools respond within two days to justify their actions. In particular, Nelson School in Maninagar was found to be asking parents to buy books from private publishers, a violation for which they were previously fined Rs 10,000. This is now the second time they have been pulled up for the same misconduct. Similarly, United Valley School is under scrutiny for repeating the same offence and has also received a two-day deadline to submit an explanation.
This crackdown is in response to a complaint filed with the DEO and reflects the government’s strict stance on ensuring fair and free education for underprivileged students under the Right to Education Act. However, the students’ union body NSUI has demanded strict legal action against the involved schools to curb such exploitative practices and uphold the integrity of Right to Education admissions.
