New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) have both shared important updates regarding the new 2025 board exam results and these updates are especially helpful for many students across the country who are eagerly really waiting for their results to be declared.
For CBSE students, the exams for Class 10 were conducted from mid-February to early April. Though there’s been a lot of confusion on social media regarding the date of the result, it has been specifically clarified by CBSE that the result will be announced only on their website, the DigiLocker app, or the UMANG app. They also cautioned students against believing false news that the date of the result would be May 6. Based on how it has gone in previous years, most students think that results will probably be out somewhere in the middle of May.
Girls have generally performed better than boys in recent years. In 2024, for instance, the pass rate in Class 10 was greater among girls, and districts such as Trivandrum, Vijayawada, and Chennai topped the list with great marks. CBSE has also brought in a new system from 2026 for Class 10 exams, where students will get two opportunities to appear – one in February-March and the other in May. Whatever attempt scores better will be considered. This is being done to ease the pressure students are under and provide them with greater flexibility.
After the results are announced, CBSE students can seek re-evaluation if they believe their marks are unfair. There’s also a compartment exam system, particularly for those who fail in one subject. But if a student fails in more than one subject, he may have to appear for the full set of exams again. CBSE mark sheets are well-recognized not just in India but also by many top universities abroad, like the University of Toronto and University College London, which is good news for those intending to study abroad. For students who get the CGPA instead of the percentage, there’s a straightforward way to convert it by multiplying the CGPA with 9.5.
At the same time, Class 12 results of GSEB students were declared on May 5. Both Science and General streams results were declared along with GUJCET scores by the board. More than 7 lakh students took these exams that were conducted in February end and early March. The results were released on the official website of GSEB, and students were also able to see the results through WhatsApp or SMS by providing their seat number.
Following the results, schools will issue physical mark sheets and certificates. GSEB has ensured that students who wish to have their answer sheets checked, correct spelling errors in names, or apply for re-examinations can do so without much hassle by following the board’s guidelines.
Comparing both boards, one significant difference is the result system. CBSE follows a relative grading system where students are graded based on their performance in comparison to others (relative grading), whereas GSEB awards marks based on how many of the total marks a student achieves (absolute grading). CBSE is also going to conduct board exams twice a year from 2026, whereas GSEB will stick to its yearly schedule.
Students are instructed to keep admit card details secure, as roll numbers and dates of birth will be required for checking results. If any student has misplaced their details, CBSE students can avail DigiLocker and GSEB students can approach schools.
