New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has decided to stop its agreement (MoU) with Inonu University in Turkey. This decision was made because of national security concerns and recent problems between India and Turkey. The main reason is that Turkey has shown support for Pakistan on serious topics like terrorism and Kashmir, which has upset India.

JNU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, said the university made this decision after talking to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs. She explained that Turkey’s support for Pakistan on such sensitive matters feels like a betrayal to India. According to her, when it comes to national security, the university cannot stay silent.

JNU has officially stopped all kinds of partnerships with Inonu University. This includes student exchange programs, joint research projects, and work with teachers from both universities. This break will stay in place until the Indian government gives new directions or things get better between the two countries.

Earlier, JNU and Inonu University had signed this MoU to help students and teachers work together, do research, and share knowledge. But due to the current political situation, JNU thought it was better to pause everything. The university has also said it will try to help the students and teachers who were already part of this exchange, so their studies are not affected too much.

The Vice Chancellor also said that this was a tough choice because working with other universities is important for learning and global understanding. But when the safety of the country is at risk, that must come first. She added that JNU still wants to work with international universities, but only with those that respect India’s rules and safety.

This decision has started many talks among education experts. Some feel this may harm India’s image globally, while others say national security is more important than anything else. JNU said it will keep watching the situation and may change the decision if Turkey’s behavior towards India improves.
