Surat: Right to Education Act has pushed in Surat, a significant initiative is underway to ensure that children from economically disadvantaged and underprivileged backgrounds receive access to primary education. This year, out of total 31,470 applications received in Surat, 25,099 were considered valid. As of the latest updates, 1,140 students have already been admitted to Class 1 under RTE, and the admission letters for 14,435 students have been issued. However, a large number approx. 10,664 students are still awaiting for the admission.
The admissions process is progressing in phases, and the education department is encouraging parents to complete the proces promptly. Notably, nearly 42% of the students who received admission letters have not yet joined their assigned schools, potentially due to various documentation or logistical issues.
To streamline the process and ensure better coordination, the authorities are urging parents to meet school deadlines and complete necessary formalities. Across Gujarat, RTE admissions began on April 6, 2025. Parents have been advised to secure their child’s admission by May 28, 2025. If parents miss this deadline, the admission process for their child will be cancelled, regardless of the allotment.
The local administration and education officials are putting in substantial efforts to increase awareness and facilitate the enrollment process. It is emphasized that the timely completion of admission steps is essential to securing the child’s seat in the allocated school under the RTE scheme.
